Parish Councils are an important localised tier of Government with the UK.
Parish councils make all kinds of decisions on issues that affect the local community. Probably the most common topics that Parish Councils get involved with are planning matters (they are statutory consultees), crime prevention, helping local groups, managing open spaces and campaigning for and delivering better services and facilities.
Alderley Edge Parish Council has nine members. The Parish Council exists to help residents be a point of contact for ideas and suggestions for improvements in the village. The work of the members of the Council is voluntary, and the Councillor’s give their time freely to help enhance the village and support the village’s other organisations, for the benefit of all residents.
Some of the projects that Alderley Edge Council are involved in include The Neighbourhood Plan, The Festival Hall and Medical Centre, Speed Watch and the Christmas Lights. For more news about the activities of the council see the latest Newsletter.
The Parish Council meet regularly, generally on the second Monday of each month to discuss local issues including supporting and encouraging ongoing community engagement initiatives, maintaining devolved assets at a local level and supporting the economic diversity and prosperity of the village. Notices of these meetings, along with details of the venue, are posted on our meetings page and are also on the noticeboard outside Waitrose. You can also receive notifications electronically by subscribing to our website. You can find out more about what has been discussed by reading the minutes of the meetings or alternatively as a member of the public you are invited to come along to meetings of the Parish Council and its committees. Members of the public are allowed to make representations, answer questions and give evidence in respect of any item of business included in the agenda. The period of time which is designated for public participation would normally not exceed 10 minutes but may be extended at the discretion of the chairman.
