Alderley Edge Parish Council, in partnership with Churches Together in Alderley, has launched a new Eco Poster Design Competition aimed at encouraging local children to think creatively about how we can all help protect the environment through the environmental three Rs — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
The initiative supports the national Recycle Now campaign and forms part of the Parish Council’s wider commitment to promoting sustainability and community pride. The competition invites children aged 4–7 (Reception, Years 1 & 2) from local schools to design a poster that highlights simple, practical ways everyone can help to look after the planet.
Assembly sessions have taken place at Alderley Edge Primary School, Alderley Edge School for Girls, Nether Alderley Primary School and Mottram St Andrew Primary Academy where pupils took part in interactive engaging sessions led by Parish Councillors. Each school has received official poster templates, which are also available to collect from Alderley Edge Library.
Entries will be displayed at the Library from Saturday 25th October to Saturday 1st November, where members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite. A representative judging panel will then select the winning designs, with certificates awarded and the overall winners’ artwork featured on village litter bins to help remind residents to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Cllr Penny Bell, who is leading the project, said:
“It’s been wonderful to see how enthusiastic the children have been about caring for their local environment. Our younger residents already have a fantastic awareness of the issues facing our planet, and projects like this give them a voice to express that passion creatively. By combining imagination with environmental action, we’re helping to build on that awareness and make sustainability part of everyday village life.”
