The Alderley Edge Parish Council held its Annual Civic Service on Sunday, 22nd September 2024, at The Methodist Church on Chapel Rd, marking a day of community reflection and solidarity.
The service, led by Cllr Ali Bates, Chair of the Parish Council, was well attended by council members, local residents, community groups, and dignitaries from across Cheshire, including the Rt Hon Esther McVey MP for Tatton.
This year’s theme centred on community strength and togetherness, highlighting the essential role of volunteer groups and organisations that form the backbone of Alderley Edge. “It’s wonderful to see the representation of so many groups here today, from toddlers to scouts and guides, and every volunteer group in between. We salute you all for your hard work, dedication, and the spirit of community that you bring to our village,” said Cllr Bates during her welcome address.
The service was not only a spiritual gathering but also a platform for community engagement, with attendees enjoying homemade cakes and coffee post-service while discussing local issues with their representatives, including local MP Esther McVey.
Reflecting on the community’s diversity and unity, Cllr Bates shared a poignant message, “It doesn’t matter where we come from or what our beliefs are, our common goal is to make Alderley Edge the best it can be. Let’s continue fostering a strong, harmonious community in our village.” She concluded her address by quoting John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, encouraging continued good deeds and community service.
The Parish Council extends its warm thanks to all who participated and contributed to making the Annual Civic Service a memorable and meaningful event, reinforcing the values of respect, kindness, and community spirit within the village.
