About the Air Quality Strategy
Cheshire East first published an Air Quality Strategy in 2011, which was subsequently reviewed and updated in 2018. The aim of the Air Quality Strategy is to support the achievement of the National air quality objectives and to ensure air quality is considered within a wide range of local government and regional planning frameworks. It aims to drive greater improvements in air quality at the local level and is reviewed on a 5-yearly basis.
Proposed changes to the strategy
Due to the changes in legislation, plus the current Cheshire East Air Quality Strategy being over 5 years old, Cheshire East Council is now undertaking a review of the strategy and would like your views on the proposed Air Quality Strategy for 2024 to 2029.
The main changes of this proposed draft relate to the layout of the document, making reference to the Environment Act 2021, advising they now monitor for Particulate Matter using a Real-Time Analyser, and referencing current Cheshire East plans and strategies such as the Environment Strategy.
The objectives of the Strategy remain the same, however four new Strategy commitments have been included in Section 4, which cover domestic burning and Smoke Control Areas, agriculture, indoor air quality and funding air quality. Finally additional targets have been included in Table 5.1, to strengthen the indicators in monitoring the effectiveness of the strategy.
